Hi Deep, Haven't heard from you for so long.... I have been fighting with my internet connection, mobile phone etc...

NOW : back again with laptop troble : strange sound back again after update failure due to extremely slow connection for Quick time and itune. Do you think you could have a look at this hijack result ?

No, How should I do that ?

No, How should I do that ?

The easy way? or the hard way?

BACK UP PRECIOUS DATA!!! I'm a downhill type of guy. The first thing I would try, BEFORE attempting to revert SP2 is a simple command from START->RUN.

sfc /scannow

The earlier might point out missing or corrupt files, but if the list is long, or the result is null: reloads are the most efficient recovery. I'm sure there are more difficult ways, but if you have the installation CD available, boot from it and let the installer run. This is merely a variation on the Microsoft recommendation: "Don't repair it, REINSTALL IT!"

When asked to choose between install new or fix old operating system, select to fix the old. This should install your OS per the original configuration without affect to any collected data. If the original configuration was without SP2, the repaired configuration will be without SP2. You can then go through the update procedure at the Microsoft site.

Yes, I did, as soon as I

Yes, I did, as soon as I noticed the sound effect, I tried to restore, several times, at an earlier date but after trying for some times, the machine refused to do it.

Next possibility

Have you tried to reload SP2?

Your HJT report Shows XP SP2

Have you tried reverting to a savepoint that predates your trouble?

is there any hope left over???

No. Thanks god, I did not apply updates on August the 13th. I came back from holiday 12, late in the evening.
I do not have anything in my updates history earlier than August the 16th.
I have tried to turn off Restore, reboot and then re-do updates, problem stll persists.
I uninstalled again itune, was better for a short while and now back again the mudled sound.
My itunes program is in French, would that be of any cause ? I have quite a few French softweares that use quick time or realtek ??
I also have this Moviewow stock that I can't neither use nor uninstall.
Any other ideas ?

Your sound trouble

Did you, perhaps, run your updates on or about August 13?

There were two updates, on that Monday, related to sound drivers. Those updates have caused more than one trouble for local customers.

You can view your update history from the control panel (Add and Remove Programs). Toggle the "Show updates" box and select the two questionable updates of August 13. Remove them, and see if your sounds return.

BTW: Spybot and Avira detect different types of threats. Your results are not surprising. Keep a watchful eye. Smile

I looked at add or remove -

I looked at add or remove - show updates. Can't see any update for Quick time. This might be because when I had the troubles of updating failure in June, I deleted both Quick Time and ITune. I reinstalled them later. At the same period, as my internet connection was extremely slow, I tried to remove few other programs, One of them, MovieWow, was stuck when tried to uninstall and keep asking me for disc number 2 that doesn't exists (I also installed other educational softwear : I love math and I love Spelling, that caused trouble when installed and they do use Quicktime. Plus, I had trouble with Nokia Suit when installed in July when I was trying to connect via mobile handset used as a modem. I contacted Nokia, they asked me to manually uninstall the Nokia Suite but could no use their cleaner as not possi ble with my version.
Yes, I have been unlucky but No, not because of the !3th of August.
Any other idea ?

Misunderstanding

These are not updates specific to QuickTime nor to iTunes. The question I asked was exact. Did you, or did you not, apply updates on or about August 13?

Regardless of the original source of trouble, at some point in time, iTune and QuickTime worked. Later changes complicate the process of restoring that condition. I know, for a fact, the two updates of 2007 August 13 break Internet Explorer 7 and audio applications for a small subset of computer hardware configurations. Removing those two updates may solve your problem, or maybe not; in either case, the updates should not be applied unless issues specific to those updates affect your computer experience.

If your problems predated August 13, we must look further back for the source.

Phishing???

That's rich! We actively fight phishing.

Regarding the hijack report, you have an artifact trojan - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F}. Run your virus scan again but after closing all of your browser windows and other applications. You should, afterward, run CCleaner.

You are running AntiVir and have the SpyBot teatimer active; these are good for continued system health. Although, lately, there are viruses targetting SDHelper.dll; you would do well to have a handy archive of the most recent SpyBot S&D installation.

Your Java Runtime Environment is recent, but you should always check to see if a more recent version is available. Many security fixes are added as new virii publish to exploit vulnerabilities found in the aging codebase.

Also, change your Microsoft updates to download but not automatically install. Read the details of updates, particularly those updates to IE7. Only install those updates which do not conflict with your particular hardware platform. Check with your hardware manufacturer for hardware-related updates and tell Microsoft updater to ignore those patches which your manufacturer suggests are inappropriate.

NOTE: I promoted your comment to forum topic, since it is a different issue from the original thread

I keep getting the warning

I keep getting the warning message telling me this is a suspicious fishing website.
Anyway, Thanks for your advices.
I have lunched Spybot and it founds 6 entries. it's been the third time since recently. AVIRA could not find anything anywhere.
Where can I reach this Trojan ?
Do you think the sound trouble would be any related to the trojan ?
I'll try to check compatbility for updates but all this is such a hassle and time consumming.
Am I really unlucky or everyone got so much trouble ?
